This track establishes a dark and somewhat unsettling mood evocative of the loneliness that comprised most of Frank's existence. While he was appreciated and applauded by his community for his crossing guard service, Frank was also horribly treated by some of the residents, shunned by "polite" society, and he also struggled with mental illness while living in a state of wretched antisocial solitude. The ascending piano pattern in this tune is comprised of permutations of the "Mystic Chord", also known as the "Prometheus Scale"; its sonority has no distinct tonicity and no satisfying resolution, and by undergoing constant permutation and inversion the pattern can go on and on without ever leading anywhere.
